Can raw answers predict an SHSAT score?
Not reliably for the fall 2026 adaptive test. NYC Public Schools uses response patterns and question difficulty to calculate performance, then scales each subject and adds the section scores. A count of correct answers leaves out that difficulty information.
Our practice mode therefore calculates accuracy and question-count goals. Reported-score mode adds the section scores you supply. Neither mode invents a conversion table, percentile or admission probability.
Older 57-question materials have a separate practice setting. It changes the accuracy denominator only; it does not apply an old scoring curve to a new test. Read NYC’s current test and scoring guidance.
What does 35 ELA + 40 Math mean?
At an 80% practice goal for each subject, this student needs five more correct ELA answers and has met the Math goal. It does not mean a 525 scaled score or a 75th-percentile result.
If a score report instead lists scaled scores of 260 ELA and 275 Math, the composite is 535. Those are different kinds of numbers. Choose the matching calculator mode before entering them.

Find a pattern
Review missed questions and mark the reason: content gap, misreading or time pressure. Start with a pattern you can act on.
Practice one skill
Choose a short, focused exercise. In ELA, explain which words support your answer. In Math, write the setup before calculating.
Check again
Try fresh questions under similar conditions. Record the test source and timing alongside accuracy so the comparison has context.
For parents: ask “Which mistake can we learn from?” before asking for a target school. One practice result is a starting point for a conversation, not a verdict on your child.

What is a good SHSAT score?
Use the historical table for context, choosing the correct entering grade. There is no single score that guarantees an offer at every school or in a future cycle. Practice accuracy cannot be compared directly with those scaled-score thresholds.
How many correct answers do I need for Stuyvesant?
There is no dependable fixed count for the adaptive test. Question difficulty matters. Work toward a practice goal, then use your official score report for a scaled result.
Which grade should I select in the cutoff table?
Choose the grade you would enter at the specialized high school, not your current grade. Grade 9 and grade 10 admission thresholds are listed separately. The table describes fall 2026 entry only.
Does 80% mean the 80th percentile?
No. Accuracy is the share of questions you answered correctly. A percentile compares performance with a defined group of test takers. This tool calculates accuracy, not percentiles.
Do I need an email or account?
No. Use the calculator without signing up. Your entries are held in the open page and are not saved as a personal progress record. Reloading clears them.

Accuracy = correct answers ÷ total questions × 100. A subject goal rounds total questions × target percentage up to the next whole question. Composite = supplied scaled ELA + supplied scaled Math. Historical difference = that composite minus the selected past cutoff. No hidden conversion model is used.
