SCORING METHODOLOGY

SAT calculator methodology

ScoreDino uses three transparent methods: addition for section totals, maximum section values for a two-date superscore, and a published table for nonadaptive Paper Practice Test 10. This page explains each SAT scoring method and the limits of SAT calculator accuracy. None issues or verifies an official score.

Section totalTwo section scores, each 200–800 in steps of 10Reading and Writing + Math.
Two-date superscoreFour section scores, each 200–800 in steps of 10Highest Reading and Writing + highest Math.
Paper Practice Test 10Whole correct counts: Reading and Writing 0–66; Math 0–54Look up each section and add the lower endpoints and upper endpoints separately.

These are the rules implemented in the current ScoreDino calculator. Section-score scale context comes from College Board’s score-report explanation. Paper inputs and ranges come from the Paper Test 10 scoring guide, printed page 5.

02

What does a paper SAT score conversion look like?

For the supported paper test, 50 correct in Reading and Writing maps to 580–640, and 42 correct in Math maps to 600–660. The resulting total range is 1180–1300. College Board: Paper Test 10 Scoring Guide

ScoreDino does not average those endpoints into a predicted score, interpolate between rows, or present the range as a statistical confidence interval.

03

What do target comparisons mean?

A target comparison subtracts the calculated result from the target you entered. For example, a 1400 target against a total of 1280 leaves a 120-point gap.

For a range, the comparison uses both endpoints. A target inside a range is simply inside that interval; it does not have a stated probability of being reached.

Frequently asked questions

Does the paper table work for every SAT practice test?

No. It applies only to the named nonadaptive paper test. Use the original guide for any other paper test and the reported score for a Bluebook test.

Does ScoreDino check my official score report?

No. It calculates from your entries. Check them against the original report before relying on the arithmetic.

Can this tell me what I will score on test day?

No. A calculation from existing or hypothetical inputs cannot establish a future result.
