Auburn Acceptance Rate: 47%, With a New Test Requirement

Applying for Summer or Fall 2027? Plan to send official SAT or ACT scores. Auburn now requires them for a complete application. Older advice about a test-optional route with a 3.6 GPA applies to an earlier cycle.

The short answer

The rate is only the start.

Auburn University admitted 27,724 of 59,121 first-year applicants for Fall 2025, an acceptance rate of 46.9%. That is the latest Common Data Set cohort verified for this guide. It is a historical result, not a Fall 2027 admission forecast.

The two comparable Common Data Sets show a small increase in the admit rate, alongside more applications and offers. Use the entering term when comparing figures across websites.

Calculation: 27,724 admitted ÷ 59,121 applicants × 100 = 46.9%. From Fall 2024 to Fall 2025, the rate rose by about one percentage point. Two cohorts do not establish a continuing trend.

Why might you see 50%? Auburn’s admissions overview also displays that figure, without the applicant and admit counts behind it. The university does not explain the difference on those pages. This guide uses the reproducible CDS calculation above.

An offer and an enrollment are different

In Fall 2025, 6,112 of the 27,724 admitted students enrolled. That produces a 22.0% enrollment yield. Yield asks how many admitted students enrolled; acceptance rate asks how many applicants received an offer.

Two percentages. Different starting groups.

The important change for 2027 applicants

Auburn’s current freshman instructions require official scores for Summer/Fall 2027. An official admissions announcement also states that testing returns for Fall 2027 and beyond. A strong GPA does not remove this requirement.

You may still find older test-optional language, including a conflicting policy checkbox in the 2025 CDS. For your application, follow the current admissions instructions and confirm that your scores show as received in your applicant portal.

Auburn accepts the ACT Superscore Report and also calculates superscores from SAT or individual ACT reports. Its FAQ says it uses your best result for admission and scholarship consideration. Send official scores directly from the testing agency: SAT code 1005 or ACT code 0011.

These Fall 2025 ranges describe enrolled first-year students who submitted each test. They are the 25th–75th percentiles, often called the middle 50%.

What the SAT, ACT and GPA numbers mean
TestMiddle 50%Enrolled submitters
SAT total1280–13701,133 (19%)
ACT composite26–314,431 (72%)

A 1300 SAT falls inside that historical range. A 1400 is above its upper endpoint. Neither score proves admission, and a score below the range does not establish automatic rejection. The range describes a group that already enrolled; it is not a published minimum.

The samples also matter. The two categories can overlap, so adding 19% and 72% does not reveal the exact test-optional share. Past score patterns may change now that testing is required.

Auburn reports a mean high-school GPA of 4.10 for this enrolled class. Its admissions guidance describes the review GPA as weighted and cumulative. Do not read 4.10 as an unweighted minimum, or compare differently calculated school GPAs as if they were identical.

To make this useful, review your transcript with your counselor. Look at core classes, course difficulty and grade trends. Then choose a realistic test-preparation target. ScoreDino’s guide to a good SAT score can help you compare college ranges without treating one number as a guarantee.

Does being an Alabama resident change the rate?

Auburn says it considers residency and its mission to serve Alabama. However, the CDS page used here does not provide a verified resident/nonresident applicant-and-admit breakdown. The overall 46.9% should not be presented as an out-of-state rate.

The admissions site publishes separate enrolled-student score profiles by residency. Those profiles answer a different question from acceptance rates. Do not turn a higher score range into an invented admission probability, or assume every major has the university-wide rate.

Build a complete application before your deadline

For Summer/Fall 2027, choose one application platform: Auburn’s application or Common App. The complete-file checklist includes the application, the $50 nonrefundable fee or qualifying waiver, your high-school transcript and official SAT/ACT scores.

If any required item is missing in your portal, follow up and check again. A complete file can enter the review process; it does not guarantee admission. Source: Auburn freshman admissions instructions.

The remaining early-action rounds and regular decision dates are below. These are materials-received deadlines, so leave time for documents and score delivery.

Early action is nonbinding. A complete file, including the required official scores, must arrive by December 1 for competitive merit scholarship consideration. Jan 11, 2027 is the listed deadline for additional scholarship score updates; it does not replace the December 1 complete-file deadline.

The financial-aid page’s award chart is still labeled Fall 2026, so do not budget around those amounts as promised 2027 awards. Check your portal and the current scholarship instructions for your offer and any further requirements.

Before you submit, try this short check:

  • Choose the round you can meet with a complete file, not just a finished application form.
  • Check that your transcript and official scores have arrived. Keep a record of requests and confirmations.
  • Use the optional activities and academic-achievement forms when they add specific, relevant context.
  • Keep other college applications moving while you wait. Early action does not guarantee an offer or scholarship.

A few more answers

Frequently asked questions

Is Auburn hard to get into?

The verified Fall 2025 CDS rate is about 47%, so an offer was far from automatic. Your preparation should focus on the application requirements and academic context, rather than treating the overall percentage as a personal prediction.

Can I apply without SAT or ACT scores for Fall 2027?

Under the current freshman policy, official SAT or ACT scores are required. The earlier test-optional pathway should not be used to plan a Summer/Fall 2027 application.

Will applying early improve my chances?

The sources checked do not establish a comparable early-action acceptance rate or a causal admission boost. The clear benefit is timing: early-action completion protects eligibility for competitive merit consideration and gives you an earlier decision round.

Is this also Auburn’s transfer acceptance rate?

No. The figures above cover first-time, first-year applicants. Transfer admission has a different applicant group and requirements, so use Auburn’s transfer instructions for that route.
